Attunement
requires attunement by a character with proficiency in Arcana or Religion
Mechanical effect
When you find a creature that is defeated, incapacitated, or completely at your mercy (such as restrained and willing or unconscious), you can use an action to activate the ring. The ring emits a spectral red smoke that pulls a fragment of the creature’s life essence from its body. The creature immediately dies without a death saving throw or death resistance. You regain hit points equal to 1d10 + your spellcasting ability modifier (if you have none, use your Constitution modifier instead). This ability can be used twice, and the ring regains all expended uses daily at dawn.
Description
Set with a dark gem that glows like a dying ember, the Anillo del Vacío Soberano is said to siphon the final breath of vanquished foes. When activated on a surrendered or incapacitated enemy, the ring draws out their soul essence in a spectral red smoke, leaving behind a lifeless husk. Legends speak of sovereigns who used this ring to claim dominion over death itself, gaining vitality from the defeat of their enemies.
DM notes
This item’s ability to instantly kill helpless foes and heal the user is powerful but balanced by strict activation conditions and limited uses. The requirement of attunement and limited daily charges prevents abuse and sharing. The healing scales modestly with the user’s modifier, adding a small personal touch. Fits well as a Very Rare item given the significant but situational power.
