Attunement

requires attunement by a character with a Charisma score of 13 or higher

Mechanical effect

While attuned to this ring, you gain a +2 bonus to Charisma. The ring has 3 charges and regains all expended charges daily at dawn. As an action, when a creature you can see within 30 feet is incapacitated, unconscious, or otherwise helpless and not in combat, you can expend 1 charge to activate the ring. The gem glows with a red spectral light as a wisp of red essence is drawn from the creature, rendering its eyes dull and lifeless as if its soul is drawn out. The creature dies instantly without a death saving throw. You regain hit points equal to 1d10 + your Charisma modifier (minimum of 1). This effect cannot be used on creatures that are willing or already dead.

Description

This ornate silver ring bears a dark ruby that pulses with a crimson glow when activated. Legends say it captures the very essence of defeated foes, allowing the wearer to drain their life force once they are rendered helpless. The ring’s power manifests only when its bearer chooses to claim the soul of a vanquished enemy, granting a potent but measured boon to the wearer’s presence and vitality.

DM notes

The item grants a significant but bounded Charisma bonus and a potent, situational ability to end helpless foes instantly while healing the wearer, balanced by limited charges and usage only outside of active combat. The 3-charge limit with daily recharge fits the Very Rare rarity, as the power is strong but carefully constrained. Attunement limits sharing and stacking, preventing abuse. The healing amount scales slightly with Charisma, reinforcing the thematic synergy without breaking rarity caps.
